*Reason for recommendation
Even for local Japanese people, Shinjuku station can be quite daunting and hard to explain. It's easy to get lost inside, so please be careful if you are meeting friends here. In a nutshell, there are two separate main floors, one underground and one at ground level. For example, the West Exit is underground and the South Exit is at ground level. When getting off the train here, take care to check the signs and make sure you are headed to the correct exit you'd like to go to. In addition to the JR lines, Shinjuku station also has 7 other train lines including metro lines.
